Texas Legend Johnny Lee Joins The Country Music Cruise 2015 Lineup
Texas has been a major force in country music for over 100 years, home to artists and songwriters who have shaped American music. This year, we will be celebrating the special contributions of Texas with a special day of programming. The celebration will include shows by Texas natives Charley Pride, Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers and Asleep at the Wheel. And now, joining this esteemed lineup of Texas Artists will be legend Johnny Lee.
Johnny Lee won over millions of fans with his No. 1 smash “Lookin’ For Love” from the film “Urban Cowboy,” and followed with a string of more No. 1s, including “One in a Million,” “Bet Your Heart on Me,” “The Yellow Rose” (with Lane Brody) and “You Could’ve Heard a Heart Break.”
Charley Pride remains one of the greatest acts to call Texas home, with 29 No. 1 country music hits, selling over 70 million records during his career. He has won two Grammy Awards, three CMA awards, three American Music Awards and the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
In addition to their nine Grammy Awards, Asleep at the Wheel has released more than 20 albums, with Ray Benson inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame in 2002. He received the Texas Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996.
The Gatlins are Texas all the way. Raised near Abilene, the three brothers had a family gospel quartet with their sister and entered talent shows against Roy Orbison before setting foot in Nashville. And, of course, they recorded one of the all-time great Texas anthems, “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You).”
